200415 What is meditative and non-meditative state Samadhi Pada -3.1

Science aims at the discovery of the objective reality. Eastern Wisdom aims at the discovery of the subjective reality. Science works in the domain of “Who am I not” i.e. matter, body, breath, brain, mind, intellect and ego, matter, stars, galaxy, world outside. Eastern Wisdom aims at knowing our true nature or “Who am I”. Knowledge knows no boundaries, and both complement each other. Knowledge, as such, should not be rejected. Knowledge is the power that liberates.
Patanjali explains clearly about the mind – what is the mind. What causes the mind to exist? What are subjective and objective states of mind and how they dictate our day to day life?. Why the mind cannot lead us to mindfulness or meditation. How to work on the mind to bring an end to all sufferings of life.
The talk will be published in book form shortly
Patanjali is known as father of eastern psychology. Eastern psychology studies the mind, its nature, pure , impure mind , causes of suffering and silence in the mind, role of mind that leads to awakening, realization and transformation.
Does practice of meditation or mindfulness without knowledge of mind succeeds? Every master declares that without right knowledge of principles of eastern wisdom, meditation / mindfulness will never succeed. It is like driving a car on highway , not knowing or deciding where to go.
Patanjali in first four sutra of first chapter summarizes everything of the book. the discovery of our essential nature behind and beyond the mind is the goal, leads to awakening. The true nature is full of permanent happiness, truth, love and wisdom. As a seeker, we are seeking and searching permanent happiness.
When we practice meditation/ mindfulness without proper and right knowledge from the teachings of the masters, we start searching permanent happiness in the world of change. How can there be permanent happiness in the world of change?
